While she is blissfully happy with Harrison, Calista - who adopted nine-year-old son Liam just a year before meeting the Hollywood star in 2002 - admitted she was initially wary about their relationship because of their 22-year age gap.

The 46-year-old actress told Sunday Times Style magazine: 'I thought, 'This is ridiculous, he's way too old for me, I'm way to young.' But you can't help who you fall in love with and I fell in love with him. It might be an issue in the future, but, as of now, it really hasn't been.

'I like to tease him about it. I use it against him. He's lived a very long time, you know. He knows everything. I say, 'Yes, honey, you're very old, we know that.' '

She said: 'Obviously I'm very thankful for this moment. Since Nick and I made our announcement, people have been very congratulatory.

'We didn't really want to talk about this yet, but I'm in the public eye and really didn't have a choice.

'So I'm just thankful I can go through this time and feel a lot of warmth. It's restored my faith in people a bit.'

Nick revealed the pair are expecting twins earlier this month, joking he would probably get 'yelled' at for letting the information go public, despite weeks of speculation.

He said: 'In order for my wife and I to have our life, we need to be up front and I need to be able to share things with you and be real.

'I didn't even tell my wife I was gonna do this. I'm probably gonna get yelled at for not getting permission... We are having twins.'

MADINA – Former US heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson, who is on a visit to the Kingdom to perform Umrah, Sunday prayed at the Quba’ and Qiblatain mosques.
He also visited the Islamic University and met the university’s president, Dr. Muhammad Al-Oqla, and American nationals studying there.

Tyson was mobbed whereever he went. Large numbers of fans gathered around the hotel where he is staying near the Prophet’s Mosque. Some people waited for hours just to see him and take his pictures.

Tyson had to scurry toward the Prophet’s Mosque for Dhuhr prayers as fans gathered around him in large numbers. He used the Shimagh of one of his companions to cover his head but the fans recognized him and followed him.

“I am happy that I have fans who love me here in the Kingdom, but I hope they leave me alone to enjoy my spiritual moments at the Holy Sites,” he said.
“I couldn’t resist shedding tears when I came to know that I was in one of the gardens of paradise,” Tyson said referring to Arrawda in the Prophet’s Mosque.
Tyson was accompanied by Shahzad Muhammad, head of the Canadian Dawah Association, which organized his visit to Saudi Arabia.

“Tyson became emotional when offering Salam to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him),” said Shahzad.

“He cried for more than half an hour while standing in front of the Prophet’s grave, raising his hands.”

“He remained in front of the Rawdah for hours praying, reciting the Qur’an and making supplications,” Shahzad said.

VANCOUVER - Michael Jackson has died at 50, the Los Angeles coroner's office confirmed Thursday.

The pop superstar suffered cardiac arrest and failed to respond to CPR given by paramedics in the ambulance that responded to a 911call to his L.A. mansion just after noon.

His sister, pop star LaToya, ran in the hospital sobbing after Jackson was pronounced dead, the web site TMZ reported. He had gone into a deep coma after the heart attack.

"The King of Pop" was in rehearsals for a massive concert agenda at London's O2 Arena, where he was scheduled to perform at 50 sold-out shows starting on July 13.

Joe Jackson, Michael Jackson's father, told EOnline the family was informed that the singing star has been taken to hospital. The family is reportedly gathering at the deceased singer's bedside.

A Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said that Jackson wasn't breathing when emergency workers arrived at 12:26 p.m. Thursday, The L.A. Times reported.

Parademics performed CPR and took Jackson to the UCLA Medical Centre.

Entertainment Tonight has posted a photo on its website of the singer being led away by paramedics. Calling it the exclusive last photo of the pop star, it can be viewed at etonline.com.

After years of bad press regarding his trial and acquittal on child molestation charges, Jackson was hoping the O2 concerts would signal a comeback.

The Times reported the pop icon was living in a Bel-Air mansion and was in rehearsal for the shows. It said he was being funded by two billionaires to ensure the success of the venture.

Jackson is in massive debt, and was hoping the shows would restart his career with a world tour, new album and movies.

The O2 concerts would have attracted some 750,000 fans.

RollingStone reported that for the concerts, Jackson was seeking a children’s choir that knew sign language and was “exactly equal” in racial diversity.

Word of Jackson’s passing has spread online, already garnering tributes. Longtime friend and collaborator Quincy Jones issued this statement:

"I am absolutely devastated at this tragic and unexpected news. For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words.

Divinity brought our souls together on The Wiz and allowed us to do what we were able to throughout the 80's.

To this day, the music we created together on "Off The Wall," "Thriller" and "Bad" is played in every corner of the world and the reason for that is because he had it all...talent, grace, professionalism and dedication.

He was the consummate entertainer and his contributions and legacy will be felt upon the world forever.

I've lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him."

Michael Joseph Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana, the seventh child of the Jackson family. He debuted at a talent show with his brothers in The Jackson 5 at the age of six in 1964.

His groundbreaking videos featured well-crafted, danceable pop songs, accompanied by his signature dance steps, of which the reverse-sliding "moonwalk" was the most famous.

They included such mega-hits as Beat It, Billie Jean and Thriller, which helped make popular such newborn music-television stations as MTV and MuchMusic.

While known for financial and legal challenges in later years, the pop star earlier won global adoration for his performances and charity work. He funneled millions of dollars through his foundation.

His skin grew paler and his nose more aquiline and shape of his lips changed.. Some reports say he was trying to look increasingly like one of his musical heroes, former Supreme Diana Ross.

He came to hate the term "Wacko Jacko."

He was later diagnosed with vitiligo, making him extremely sensitive to sunlight. Some reports said the treatment he took for condition lightened his colour.

While his fans stood by him, the press often savaged him. He told one reporter: "Why not just tell people I'm an alien from Mars. Tell them I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight. They'll believe anything you say, because you're a reporter. But if I, Michael Jackson, were to say, "I'm an alien from Mars and I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight", people would say, "Oh, man, that Michael Jackson is nuts. He's cracked up. After two, ultimately unproved, allegations in 1993 and 2003 of sexually abusing young boys during sleepovers at his Neverland Ranch in California, Jackson never recovered the exuberance and musical creativity that marked his youth.

After his acquittal in 2005 on charges of sexual abuse of a 13-year-old boy, Jackson shut the gates of Neverland and began a nomadic lifestyle in Bahrain, Dubai, Ireland and Las Vegas while battling lawsuits over his dwindling finances.

Jackson said repeatedly that he loved children and would never harm them but he was often forced to defend his views on sharing his bed with children. “Children love me. I love children ... They want to be with me. But anybody can come in my bed. A child can come in my bed if they want,” he said in a 1996 U.S. television interview.

Michael, once married to Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Elvis, is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II.

LOS ANGELES — Michael Jackson, the sensationally gifted child star who rose to become the "King of Pop" and the biggest celebrity in the world only to fall from his throne in a freakish series of scandals, died Thursday. He was 50. Jackson died at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. Ed Winter, the assistant chief coroner for Los Angeles County, confirmed his office had been notified of the death and would handle the investigation.

The circumstances of Jackson's death were not immediately clear. Jackson was not breathing when Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to a call at his Los Angeles home about 12:30 p.m., Capt. Steve Ruda told the Los Angeles Times. The paramedics performed CPR and took him to the hospital, Ruda told the newspaper.

Jackson's death brought a tragic end to a long, bizarre, sometimes farcical decline from his peak in the 1980s, when he was popular music's premier all-around performer, a uniter of black and white music who shattered the race barrier on MTV, dominated the charts and dazzled even more on stage.

His 1982 album "Thriller" _ which included the blockbuster hits "Beat It," "Billie Jean" and "Thriller" _ is the best-selling album of all time, with an estimated 50 million copies sold worldwide.

The public first knew him in the late 1960s, when as a boy he was the precocious, spinning lead singer of the Jackson 5, the music group he formed with his four older brothers. Among their No. 1 hits were "I Want You Back," "ABC," and "I'll Be There."

He was perhaps the most exciting performer of his generation, known for his feverish, crotch-grabbing dance moves and his high-pitched voice punctuated with squeals and titters. His single sequined glove, tight, military-style jacket and aviator sunglasses were trademarks second only to his ever-changing, surgically altered appearance.

"For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words," said Quincy Jones, who produced "Thriller." "He was the consummate entertainer and his contributions and legacy will be felt upon the world forever. I've lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him."

Jackson ranked alongside Elvis Presley and the Beatles as the biggest pop sensations of all time. He united two of music's biggest names when he was briefly married to Presley's daughter, Lisa Marie, and Jackson's death immediately evoked that of Presley himself, who died at age 42 in 1977.

As years went by, Jackson became an increasingly freakish figure _ a middle-aged man-child weirdly out of touch with grown-up life. His skin became lighter, his nose narrower, and he spoke in a breathy, girlish voice. He surrounded himself with children at his Neverland ranch, often wore a germ mask while traveling and kept a pet chimpanzee named Bubbles as one of his closest companions.

"It seemed to me that his internal essence was at war with the norms of the world. It's as if he was trying to defy gravity," said Michael Levine, a Hollywood publicist who represented Jackson in the early 1990s. He called Jackson a "disciple of P.T. Barnum" and said the star appeared fragile at the time but was "much more cunning and shrewd about the industry than anyone knew."

Jackson caused a furor in 2002 when he playfully dangled his infant son, Prince Michael II, over a hotel balcony in Berlin while a throng of fans watched from below.

In 2005, he was cleared of charges he molested a 13-year-old cancer survivor at Neverland in 2003. He had been accused of plying the boy with alcohol and groping him, and of engaging in strange and inappropriate behavior with other children.

The case followed years of rumors about Jackson and young boys. In a TV documentary, he had acknowledged sharing his bed with children, a practice he described as sweet and not at all sexual.

Despite the acquittal, the lurid allegations that came out in court took a fearsome toll on his career and image, and he fell into serious financial trouble.

Jackson was preparing for what was to be his greatest comeback: He was scheduled for an unprecedented 50 shows at a London arena, with the first set for July 13. He was in rehearsals in Los Angeles for the concert, an extravaganza that was to capture the classic Jackson magic: showstopping dance moves, elaborate staging and throbbing dance beats.

Singer Dionne Warwick said: "Michael was a friend and undoubtedly one of the world's greatest entertainers that I fortunately had the pleasure of working with. ... We have lost an icon in our industry."

Hundreds of people gathered outside the hospital as word of his death spread. The emergency entrance at the UCLA Medical Center, which is near Jackson's rented home, was roped off with police tape.

"Ladies and gentlemen, Michael Jackson has just died," a woman boarding a Manhattan bus called out, shortly after the news was announced. Immediately many riders reached for their cell phones.

So many people wanted to verify the early reports of Jackson's death that the computers running Google's news section interpreted the fusillade of "Michael Jackson" requests as an automated attack for about half an hour Thursday evening.

In New York's Times Square, a low groan went up in the crowd when a screen flashed that Jackson had died, and people began relaying the news to friends by cell phone.

"No joke. King of Pop is no more. Wow," Michael Harris, 36, of New York City, read from a text message a friend sent to his telephone. "It's like when Kennedy was assassinated. I will always remember being in Times Square when Michael Jackson died."

We've just learned Michael Jackson has died. He was 50.

Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon at his Holmby Hills home and paramedics were unable to revive him. We're told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back.

A source tells us Jackson was dead when paramedics arrived. A cardiologist at UCLA tells TMZ Jackson died of cardiac arrest.

Once at the hospital, the staff tried to resuscitate him but he was completely unresponsive.

A source inside the hospital told us there was "absolute chaos" after Jackson arrrived. People who were with the singer were screaming, "You've got to save him! You've got to save him!"

We're told one of the staff members at Jackson's home called 911.

La Toya ran in the hospital sobbing after Jackson was pronounced dead.

Michael is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II.

Hollywood actress Farrah Fawcett, a glamorous face on television in the 1970s series Charlie's Angels, has died in Los Angeles at age 62. The actress succumbed to cancer after a 2.5-year battle.

Fawcett was born in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1947 and got her start as a model and actress in television commercials. By the late 1960s, she was getting small roles in network series. Her big break came in 1976, when she was hired to play Jill Munroe -- one of three glamorous crime-fighters in the series Charlie's Angels. "Why don't you check into this one yourself, Charlie?"

She stayed with the show for just one season, but with her stunning good looks, she became a Hollywood icon. A poster of Fawcett posed seductively in a swim suit sold millions of copies.

She was never successful on the big screen, and had a major movie flop in 1978 called Somebody Killed Her Husband. Accepting more serious roles in the 1980s and '90s, Fawcett won acclaim for a number of television films, playing a battered wife in The Burning Bed and a murderous mother in Small Sacrifices. She also appeared in a New York play called Extremities, and starred in a film version of that story of a rape victim.

Fawcett married the actor Lee Majors in 1973; the couple divorced nine years later. She started a relationship with actor Ryan O'Neal, and the two had a son in 1985. O'Neal and Fawcett split up in 1997, and had an on-and-off relationship since then. O'Neal was said to be at Fawcett's side when she died, along with her friend, actress Alana Stewart.

In 2006, Fawcett revealed she suffered from anal cancer. She underwent treatment and the disease appeared to be in remission, but it returned the following year. Her battle against cancer was depicted in a 2008 documentary called A Wing and a Prayer, which chronicled her travels to Germany for unconventional treatments, and another documentary released this May called, Farrah's Story.

Sources in Los Angeles, California say international pop star Michael Jackson has died after suffering cardiac arrest.

Los Angeles fire officials say Jackson was rushed to UCLA Medical Center Thursday after emergency officials found him not breathing at his home. He was given CPR, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, at the scene before being taken to the hospital. Later reports said he was in a coma at the hospital.

The Los Angeles Times newspaper quotes fire and law enforcement officials as saying the pop star has died.

The 50-year-old singer, dancer and songwriter became famous as a child in the 1970s while performing with his brothers in a pop group known as The Jackson Five. He went on to a solo career that spawned dozens of hits and pioneered the music video genre.

Jackson was dogged by controversy in his later years. He was acquitted in a child-molestation trial in 2005 and later struggled with financial problems. He was scheduled to begin a series of comeback concerts in London later this year; tickets for the shows, offered in March, sold out in minutes.

First things first, there IS a difference between photo resizing and resampling. Although they are both a Photoshop tool designed to change the size of an image, using the two terms interchangeably is not accurate. The method of resizing and resampling is actually performed differently. This difference is determined by how the image itself is changed. If this sounds complicated, it's really not. One small checkbox option defines the two. Opening the Image Size dialog box, you will see a checkpoint option at the bottom corner. This is the box you choose to resize or the resample of the image.

Under the Image Menu at the top of the screen, will be what is called the Image Size dialog box. This again is the one option determining resizing or resampling. An image is actually composed of tiny dots of color together called pixels. How the number of pixels is changed or not changed defines resizing versus resampling the image. Photoshop terminology refers to this as altering the pixel dimensions. Keeping the pixels number the same and only changing the size you wish the picture to print is called resizing. Photoshop refers to this is changing the document size of the image. But, if you in fact change the amount of pixels making up the image, it is known as resampling.

Image Resizing: Changing the size the image will print without changing the number of pixels in the image. Image Resampling: Changing the number of pixels in the image.

Before we begin, it is important to understand what information is contained in the Image Size dialog box. Photoshop's Image Size dialog box is divided into two main sections. The Pixel Dimensions section is on top, while the ocument Size section is below it. The Pixel Dimensions portion displays the width and height of the image in pixels, and also tells us the file size of our picture. The Document Size section tells how the width and height at which the image is going to print. This is based on the image resolution, also found in the Document Size section of the Image Size box. An easy rule of thumb is that the Pixel Dimension section is what you would change for displaying an image on the web or your computer screen. The Document Size is what you would use to change the dimensions at which the image will print. Pixel Dimensions = web Document Size = print

Also in the Image Size box are three more options below the Document Size section: Scale Styles - Deals with Layer Styles and how they're affected by resizing or resampling the image. Constrain Proportions - Enabled by default, links the width and height of the image together. If you make a change to the width of the image, for example, Photoshop will automatically change the height, and vice versa, so that the proportions of the image remain the same and don't get distorted. Resample Image - THE IMPORTANT ONE!!!

We won't go into detail about the Scale Style and Constrain Proportion, because it is that last box that is the key to resizing vs. resampling. Keep in mind that resizing keeps the pixel dimensions the same and only changes the size at which the image will print, while resampling physically changes the number of pixels in the image. The Resample Image option will be checked by default. This means that even though the dialog box still says 'Image Size' at the top, it is now basically the Image Resample dialog box with the checkmark. All of the variables in both the Pixel Dimensions and in the Document Size will be available to you.

With the Resample Image unchecked, the Pixel Dimensions sector of the dialog box will show how many pixels are in the image for the width and height, but you will no longer be able to change those numbers. They're visible for information only. The only option available is to change how large the image will print using the Document Size section. With Resample Image checked, the pixel dimensions are shown inside white input boxes which we can click inside of and type in new values, changing how many pixels are in our image.

There are also a few other changes that happen depending on if the box is left checked or unchecked. The Scale Styles and Constrain Proportions options at the bottom of the Image Size dialog box are grayed out when Resample Image is not checked. Scale Styles is grayed out because it's only an issue when the number of pixels in an image is being altered. Since the pixels number of the image remains the same with Resample Image unchecked, the Scale Styles is not needed.

Constrain Proportions is grayed out when Resample Image is unchecked since you no longer have the option of changing the number of pixels in the image. This results in the proportions of the image being fixed. An image is 40 pixels wide and 20 pixels in height, regardless of how large or small it is printed, the width will always be twice the size of the height. If the width value in the Document Size section is changed, both the height and the resolution values will also change. Change the height value and the width and resolution values will change. Change the resolution value, and the width and height values will change. They all work together to adjust the image. The only change that can be made now is how large or small the image will print. You accomplish this by entering new values for the document size or by changing the resolution. The Constrain Proportions option is also not needed when all you are doing is resizing the print size of the image.

Image Interpolation Options When Resampling Images

Time for the dictionary! "Bicubic" and "Bicubic Sharper" are what is called "iterpolation algorithms". Don't worry, simply put, this is what the Photoshop program does in regards to removed pixels when you resample the image to a smaller size, and how it handles added pixels when you resample the image to a larger size. Photoshop CS2 a third option called "Bicubic Smoother." Image quality can be compromised if you are unsure of which option to use when. Use these basic rules: Bicubic Sharper - Using this option when resampling your image smaller provides best image quality Bicubic Smoother - Using this option when resampling your image larger provides best image quality Bicubic - Typically not used as often being replaced with Bicubic Sharper and Bicubic Smoother

Now comes some big words. "Bicubic" and "Bicubic Sharper" are what is called "interpolation algorithms". All this boils down to is how the hotoshop program handles removing pixels when you resample the image to a smaller size, and how it handles adding pixels when you resample the image to a larger size. In Photoshop CS2, there is another option added called "Bicubic Smoother." Knowing when to use which option can make a big difference with image quality, but can be remembered with a basic rule as follows: Bicubic Sharper - Use this option when resampling your image smaller for best image quality Bicubic Smoother - Use this option when resampling your image larger for best image quality Bicubic - Not used as much with Bicubic Sharper and Bicubic Smoother being available These options will be grayed out here because they only apply to images that are being resampled. If all you are doing is changing how large or small the image will print on paper, you won't need these options.

Summary Image resizing - Keeps the number of pixels in your image the same and affects only how large your image will print (the Document Size). Image resampling - Physically changes the number of pixels in your image (the Pixel Dimensions). Resample Image - Option at the bottom of the Image Size dialog box controlling if you are resizing or resampling an image. Checking the Resample Image , you are resampling the image. The Delta Blues Guitar Master - History Of Robert Johnson

Robert Johnson was born in Hazelhurst, Mississippi on May 8, 1911 and passed away in Greenwood, Mississippi on August 16, 1938. During those twenty-seven years he recorded twenty-nine songs that influenced modern blues and paved the way for the future of blues-based rock.

He was a street vocalist whose repertoire covered more than the blues. But his persona and songs credits like "Dust My Broom," "Sweet Home Chicago," "Ramblin' on My Mind," "Terraplane Blues," and "Love in Vain," to name only a few turned him into the first and most influential Delta bluesman.

Early Childhood

Robert was the product of an extramarital affair that his mother, Mrs. Julia Dodds, had with Noah Johnson. He then lived his boyhood in many homes with his mother and baby sister. Usually his mother would be the mistress of Robert's new stepfather.

He began playing the Jew's harp and later harmonica. With little interest in education and poor eyesight, he quit school. He then began playing guitar as a teenager-the facts are sketchy as to when he exactly started playing guitar.

Influences

His earliest influences were Charley Patton and Willie Brown as well as many of the journeyman musicians that he came into contact with.

When Robert was 17 he married Virginia Travis, the year was 1929. But, in April of 1930 she passed away as did their baby; both during childbirth. Later, he met Son House, who would be a major influence on Robert. It was after this meeting that Robert decided to leave the sharecropper's life that he was destined to lead for the open road. So, he returned to his place of birth where he met an obscure bluesman by the name of Ike Zinneman-who would become Robert's mentor.

Formative Years

While in Hazelhurst, Robert married for a second time to Calletta Craft. Calletta reportedly worshiped Robert and tolerated his spending days and nights with Ike. This is where the legend begins. Apparently, Ike learned to play the blues by sitting on top of tombstones. It was also during this time that Robert was working picking cotton, but he devoted his free time to writing songs and performing in local juke joints or on the courthouse steps. Sometime in the early 1930s, Robert left Calletta and Hazelhurst for the Mississippi Delta. His wife then had a breakdown and returned to her birthplace where she died shortly thereafter.

Robert then returned to Robinsonville for a short time until he settled down in Helena, Arkansas where he met and played with Elmore James, Honeyboy Edwards, Hacksaw Harney, Johnny Shines, Robert Nighthawk, Howlin' Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson II, Memphis Slim-a veritable who's who list of country blues greats. Also at this time, Robert shacked up with Estella Coleman and unofficially adopted her boy, future bluesman Robert Lockwood Jr. Robert Johnson was now on the road full-time, travelling up and down the Mississippi as far north as New York and Canada. Since his reputation grew, he became increasingly protective of his playing expressive style.

The Legend

His stature and playing ability weren't the only things growing at this time. His ability to attract women was also becoming prominent. But along with the women came jealous husbands and boyfriends as well as resentful fellow musicians. Although Robert was very ambitious, he was also becoming more and more moody and unpredictable. It was during this time that he claimed to have learned how to play the guitar from the Devil himself.

Robert had always wanted to record but it wasn't until November 23, 1936 that he finally got the opportunity. The first tune that he recorded was "Terraplane Blues" and it became a best-selling hit for Vocalion-a specialty label for Columbia. During the three sessions that he recorded that November, Robert laid down the most-influential catalog in rock and blues history for a single artist: "Kind-Hearted Woman Blues," "I Believe I'll Dust My Broom," "Sweet Home Chicago," "Ramblin' on My Mind," "Come On in My Kitchen," "Me and the Devil Blues," "Malted Milk," "When You've Got a Good Friend," "Walking Blues," "Cross Road Blues," "Milkcow's Calf Blues," "Last Fair Deal Gone Down," "They're Red Hot," "Drunken Hearted Man," "Hellhound on My Trail," "Little Queen of Spades," "I'm a Steady Rollin' Man," "From Four Till Late," "If I Had Possession over Judgement Day," "Stop Breaking Down," "Traveling Riverside Blues," "Love in Vain," "Honeymoon Blues," "Dead Shrimp Blues," "Stones in My Passway," "Preachin' Blues (Up Jumped the Devil)," "Blues" and "Phonograph Blues."

Johnson played his last show in August 1938 while trying to re-ignite a relationship with the roadhouse owner's wife. Legend has it that Robert died barking like dog. However, further investigation reported that Sonny Boy Williamson, who was with Robert at the time, cautioned him to not drink out of an open whiskey bottle that was passed around. He didn't heed the warning. Rumor has it that Robert was intentionally poisoned for his advances towards the roadhouse owner's wife. Three days later he died of strychnine poisoning and pneumonia. And, the poisoning explains his reaction, being on all fours barking like a dog. He was buried in an unmarked grave.

4 Ways To Practice Blues Guitar Properly

Practicing consistently and well is a much harder thing to do then it seems and there are many reasons why this is the case. Before I go on, I just want to say that bad practice habits affects even the most experienced blues players but it can be overcome with some help. Here are some of the issues that you may face when practicing and here are some usable solutions:

1) Problem: Getting stuck in a rut. This is a very common problem that affects nearly all guitarists at some point in time. You end up playing the same thing over and over every time you play and you can't seem to move on to anything new.

Solution: I am a firm believer that you should aspire to play everything perfectly. But, if you are stuck on this one thing and you feel like practice is getting a little stale, you should really advance to something else that inspires you. It is so important to be inspired in your practice and you can always come back to something later when you are in the right mood. Jamming over to blues backing tracks will also help in your creativity and inspiration.

2) Problem: Progressing to new skills too rapidly. Also a very common problem, moving on too quickly will without doubt, eventually turn you into a "jack of all trades and a master of none".

Solution: This problem is the opposite of the last problem we looked at. You can now see that there is a balance between too much and not enough emphasis on perfecting a song. My suggestion is that you should master each thing before you go on to the next, but if you are finding a particular skill impossible to master and you are dying of boredom trying, maybe that skill is a little out of your reach. In this case, it is best to go back and learn something less difficult.

3) Problem: Becoming narrow minded in relation to the different areas of learning within musicianship. Some people get into the situation where they are practicing only one style and neglecting everything else.

Solution: Try splitting your playing into parts. For example, I might spend 5 minutes practicing new blues scales or chords, 10 minutes working on writing new music for myself and maybe 15 minutes learning a new song or part of a song. This way, your practice never gets boring and you can achieve a lot more.

4) Problem: Playing things too fast when learning them. This can cause you to become disillusioned with your playing when you are trying to learn a new song.

Solution: A fairly obvious solution here - Slow down. Most blues guitarists, including myself try playing a song or new skill at a slow speed before trying it at a fast pace.

Practicing properly and regularly is the best way to become adept at any skill including playing the guitar. This requires discipline; not only discipline to practise on a regular basis, but also discipline to stay focused and on track when you are practicing. A great way to keep the passion in practicing is to jam to professional blues backing tracks. There are great compilations of jam tracks from companies such as 50Blues. If you keeping your passion in practice and stay disciplined with your playing you will develop into an excellent player over time.

Master Blues Guitar Playing By Practicing Blues Scale

Mastering the guitar is like taming a large bull but once you have understood it, you can play almost anything and play sensational blues riffs and licks.

The great thing about creating your own blues backing tracks is that when you need to reflect back and play a solo then, it will come in handy. On the lighter side of, it will save you the cost and the headache of arranging for a band meet up.

The last stage of mastering the blues guitar is playing solo and it is probably one of the toughest stages. Having a great blues backing track to back you up helps immensely when you are practicing a solo. While playing a blues guitar solo, you need to always know the various notes that you can play and a set of notes is known as a scale. The most important thing about playing a solo in blues is that the scales had better fit into the song as well as the chords. There are several scales and different modes that you can start practising in order to mastering blues guitar. Scales and modes include major and minor scales; melodic/ natural/harmonic scales, lydian, dorian, mixolydian, phrygian and aeolian modes. A thorough understanding of the various scales and modes will assist you to not only master the blues playing technique but also help you to improvise licks and riffs over blues backing tracks.

The Pentatonic Scale

One of the scales that will help you to really master the blues guitar and help you to play a solo and define blues backing tracks is the pentatonic scale. The name pentatonic scale has been derived from the fact that it contains 5 different notes. You can start by playing the minor pentatonic scale in E instead of the major pentatonic scale, which is played mostly for rock. You need to start from the E Key as all the open strings are on this scale. Here's an example:

Once you practice this, you then proceed on to the next stage and that involves getting the typical sound of the Blues using the Blue note also known as the diminished fifth. Some of the other blues notes that you can work on for mastering blues guitar and creating your own blues backing tracks are the diminished 7th and the 3rd. You could also play general notes at a much lower pitch than you would normally play a major scale. Another note that you need to focus on is the diminished (flat) third, which is more commonly played in classical music and in Blues music, this note is normally in a bend form of a minor note that can be converted into the major note.

The diminished (flat) seventh is also used extensively for creating professional blues backing tracks and is an essential part of the dominant 7th chord, which will take you back to the root note. These are some of the notes and scales that will help you in mastering blues guitar and also gives you the edge when playing blues live!

The internet auction mogul known as eBay quietly launched in San Jose, California on September 3rd, 1995. Computer programmer Pierre Omidyar first launched the site under the guise of his personal web page - AuctionWeb. Ending at $14.83 USD, a non functioning laser pointer was the first ever sale on eBay. When Mr. Omidyar realized the product was not in working order, he contacted the buyer to inform him. "I'm a collector of broken laser pointers," is what the buyer told him, and from there, the company began to grow. Initially, it was alleged that eBay was founded to help his wife trade her PEX candy dispensers. However, when Adam Cohen's The Perfect Store was released in 2002, it became known to the public that the story was simply a spin set forth by a 1997 public relations manager in order to gain notoriety for the website.

These answers should, in effect, help make your musical experience that much more enjoyable. Incidentally, in spite of all the struggles, I still play music fervently and haven't quit playing even when it became difficult, a testimony to the power of music.

As many of you have, I've gone into music stores and on the Web looking for the best and most helpful books and methods to buy for the musical arenas I wanted to pursue. This is important of course because these books and methods are expensive (especially these days) and a budding guitar player shouldn't have to go out and buy every book on guitar that's out there. I've also noticed that there are quite a few guitar books that start off by throwing tons of scales at the student without ever even explaining clearly why all these scales need to be learned in the first place, or worse, how the scales should be used or which chords to play the scales over and why the scales sound good over a particular chord or series of chord changes (as opposed to sounding terrible). In contrast, we'll begin the subject of learning to improvise lead guitar for rock and blues (while including concepts applicable to all guitar styles) with a very simple approach

Step 1: Learning The Names of The Individual Notes On The Fretboard

This is vital because in the art of improvisation, one has to know where one is on the fretboard at all times, regardless of what type of music is being played or improvised. Without knowing all the notes on the fretboard, it becomes easy to get lost and fall behind on the tune (while the chord changes the other musicians in the band are playing just roll on by). The natural shortcut, or the easy way out, is to only learn some of the notes on the fretboard. This approach will have at least two undesirable results: (A) the limited ability of only being able to improvise in certain keys (like A and E), and/or, (B) the limited ability of only being able to improvise on certain areas of the guitar neck. Jamming with other musicians and having these types of situations arise tends to lead to a good deal of embarrassment.

For amateurs, there are three types of notes in music: Natural, Sharp, and Flat. So for example, the note G on the 6th string 3rd fret is also called G Natural. A note that is sharp is always one fret or one half-step higher; a note that is flat is always one fret or one half-step lower. Thus, G Sharp would be on the 6th string 4th fret; G Flat would be on the 6th string 2nd fret. Because A is the next natural note up from G, this means that G Sharp and A Flat are exactly the same note. This could be confounding at the start until an comprehension of keys and key structure comes into focus afterwards.

I realize that the prospect of having to learn every note on the guitar neck can cause feelings of dread and uneasiness; indeed, it may take some time to accomplish this task. Learning the notes on the guitar academically is one thing, but getting that knowledge to work instantaneously under your fingers while improvising is something else. Easy and instinctive methods of learning the notes on guitar do exist, however. One method to begin with is to learn the basic open string chords common in every chord book (like A Major, E Major, and D Major) and take these movable chord forms (often called "bar chords") up the guitar neck, simultaneously being conscious of the roots in those chord forms. Another helpful tip is to realize that any note played on the guitar twelve frets higher is going to have exactly the same name. So for example, the note on the 1st string 1st fret and the note on the 1st string 13th fret are both going to have the same name (in this case, the note F). Thus, all the guitarist has to do is to learn the notes of the open strings and the first eleven frets and then practice playing simple chords and note patterns in both the lower area (open to 11th fret) and the upper area (12th fret and above) of the guitar neck.

This simple approach outlined here is conceptually simple, but not easy. Good things sometimes take time. It takes a few more words and a bit more effort to explain concepts clearly. My hope is that the information in this article will help make your musical experience less mysterious and more enjoyable, and that the next time you go into a music store or on the Web looking for guitar books and methods, you'll know exactly what to look for.

The underlying concept of the 12-bar blues is the I-IV-V progression, where I, IV and V represent the chords or notes that you will be using. To this, you will no doubt have two questions that spring to mind immediately, "what is I-IV-V," and how do I use it?"

Let me explain what I-IV-V is all about When you play a blues progression, you will only be required to use 3 chords. The main principle of I-IV-V let you know what are the chords to use, as follows: a slightly oversimplified approach, which happens to work for the keys of A,C,D,E and G, which is enough for right now, is to simply count out the letters of the alphabet starting with the key you're playing in. The first, fourth and fifth letter you count represent the chords that you will be using in your blues progression.

For the key of A we count: A-b-c-D-E-f-g

Thus, for the key of A, we will be using A-D-E as our I-IV-V progression. Similarly if you count out starting with E, you will find that for the key of E we will use E-A-B as our I-IV-V.

Music theory students refer to the I as the "tonic", the IV as the "subdominant", and the V as the "dominant". I will not use these terms in this lesson, but knowing that may help you understand what other people are talking about sometimes.

Chords and Progressions

Another key element to blues is to learn the chords and chord progressions that are commonly used in blues guitar. Learning these will help you to create your own blues progressions and melodies. It's important to remember that not all blues music is played at fast speeds. Some blues music is played slowly and soulfully. It's as if you can see inside of the guitarist's soul as he tells a story with his music. Accuracy is the foundation of playing solid, soul-bearing blues music, and not just raw speed.

An integral part of playing and mastering blues guitar is learning how to improvise. After you master the scales and chords, it's time to put them into practice. Improvising is where your creativity and knowledge come together to create passionate blues music. There are a variety of different improvisation techniques that you should practice along with learning your chords and scales.

Learning how to play and improvise great blues riffs and licks s is not as easy as it might seem to a novice but the one good thing is that focused learning and practicing with a great blues backing track will help a lot in understanding blues chords and progression.

Using blues backing tracks is an important aspect of playing blues lead guitar. Blues is considered to be one of the origins of jazz music and you will find some influence of blues even in contemporary jazz. Most of the blues music and the ones used in common blues backing tracks are pentatonic scales and the mixolydian scales. These scales can be used in rock too and hence the ones used for blues are enhanced with the blues notes. If you understand the basic of the blue notes then you will be able to improvise over blues backing tracks with ease. Basically, blue notes use a drop in the pitch of the 3rd, 5th and 7th of the major scale. If you hear a professional talk about a blues scale then what they really mean is the pentatonic minor scale with a blue note like b5.

There are many people who jam to blues backing tracks in the C key and the chords used could be C, C7, G7, and F7. If th tracks are meant for a solo then the Am pentatonic scale will be rather useful and perfect to a certain degree. Some of the other options of blues guitar backing tracks include C-minor pentatonic comprising of the c-blues scale and c-major and Bb major scales in Dorian mode.

Blues Chords and Progression

Here are some characteristics of the blues chords and progression, which will unquestionably help you to play great blues guitar effectively:

Most of the blues chord progressions are in a 12 bar form. Apart from this, you will also find 14, 16, 24 or even higher number of bar forms for blues. The tonic chord in blues progression is basically the dominant 7th chord. What Is The Right Guitar For You?

When it comes to choosing the right guitar for you, the most important point to keep in mind is what kind of music are you looking at playing?

Rock or Blues Guitar Music

If you are looking at playing rock or blues music, the best guitar to go for is an Electric guitar. The key here is to start small and grow big. I have seen so many people go out and buy the most expensive equipment before they can play anything. You may have your heart set on getting big names like a new Gibson Les Paul or a Fender Stratocaster, but the prices are pretty steep.

When choosing your first electric guitar, the best thing to go for is a copy of an original i.e. Plywood. The sound between an original Solid Wood compare to Plywood is a lot better, however plywood is much cheaper. My suggestion is to go for small brands like Legend, Onyx or Orion for now. Once you have mastered the basics, then it is the time to upgrade.

Second hand guitars are another option to go for. There are some great deals going in the local papers. When looking for a guitar, make sure you plug it in and try it out. Grab the strap if need be and put the guitar around your neck. Get every possible bit of information you can before making a decision.

Tips: Keep in mind that when you go for an electric guitar, you will also need an amplifier. There are some great deals going whereby you can choose guitar, amplifier and lead in one package. One final tip is when choosing your guitar; REMEMBER to plug it into an amplifier similar to what you are buying. There is no use testing your guitar through the most expensive amplifier in the shop. It will not sound the same when you play through your own amplifier at home. Choosing the right amplifier is important; therefore it is covered in the next lesson.

Classical Acoustic Music.

The best guitar to go for if you are looking at playing Classic Acoustic music is either Spanish Classic Acoustic Guitar or Steel String Acoustic.

Spanish Classic Acoustic Guitars are extremely light and having nylon strings which are very soft on your fingers. They come in a range of different sizes even very small size for young kids. Spanish Classic Acoustic guitars are also a lot cheaper and easier to maintain than Steel String Acoustic Guitar.

Steel String Acoustic Guitars are a little more expensive compare to Spanish guitars. Again, with acoustic guitars, there is no need to go for big brands when you are first starting out. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable playing it. Also, make sure your fingers fit around the guitar neck and it is not too big for you to play. It depends on you as to whether you want to pickups or not. But remember to test it first before you buy.

There are many possibilities when comes to choosing a guitar. Whether you decide to choose an electric or an acoustic, the fundamentals are the same.

Ask yourself. What style of music are you looking at playing? Classical Acoustic music or Rock music? How keen are you when comes to playing the guitar? How serious are you? What is your budget? Are you looking at getting the best equipment from the beginning or looking at starting small and then upgrading gradually? It is a little difficult to tell at this stage, so your best bet is to keep expenses low and your music education high. Choose a guitar that fits you, suits you, and makes you look good!

The boxes or patterns mostly highlight the places where you can bend an important note with your index finger. Dumbo, Disney's 4th Animated Feature

In 1941, Walt Disney released his fourth animated feature, Dumbo. Based on the children's book of the same name, written by Helen Aberson and illustrated by Harold Perl, Dumbo follows the exploits of Jumbo, Jr., a baby elephant. Because of his unnaturally large ears, which give him the ability to fly, Jumbo, Jr. is nicknamed "Dumbo." His only friend, other than his mother, is Timothy the mouse.

When Disney submitted his first cut of Dumbo to RKO, their distributor at the time, the studio was troubled to find the running time was only 64 minutes. George J. Schaefer, the president of RKO, demanded Disney either edit the feature down to a short film or beef it up to 70 minutes. Disney refused, and insisted Dumbo be released as an A picture, in the maximum number of theaters nation-wide. Schaefer reluctantly agreed.

It cost Disney only $813,000 to complete Dumbo, which was roughly half the cost of Snow White and a third of the cost of Pinocchio. Along with Snow White, it would be one of the only two feature to turn a profit for Disney during the 1940s. Its original release, in 1941, went on to gross $1.3 million - a monumental success at the time. Indeed, according to Wikipedia, Dumbo was supposed to grace the December cover of Time magazine, only to be dropped at the last minute to cover the December 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. Indeed, the Second World War would nearly break Disney's young studio as they were quickly recruited by the United States government to animate a number of training and propaganda cartoons for the Armed Forces.

Dumbo earned the nomination for and subsequently won the 1941 Academy Awards for Original Music Score. It was also nominated for Best Song for Frank Churchill and Ned Washington's "Baby Mine" and won the 1947 Cannes Film Festival award for Best Animation Design. The popularity of the film was capitalized on again during the 1949 re-release, making a massive profit for both RKO and Disney.

Dumbo was one of the first movies to be aired on television as part of Disney's anthology series, solidifying its popularity for an entire new generation of American viewers. In 1981, it was the first Disney film to be released on VHS. In 2006, the 60th Anniversary Special Edition was released to wide acclaim, while a special edition "Big Top Edition" was released on DVD.

1) "Don't Just Copy The Licks, Use The Concept." -Roger Mckinley

Again, Roger-Roger would carry a lick, say a Pat Martino phrase, and upon memorising it, amplify it, play them from all possible diatonic step, in whatever position, change the modes, etc. Do you like the way Albert Collins holds and sustains the fifth and accompanies it with a cascading flurry of descending notes? Try learning it, practising it, then re-write it from the flatted third, or the fourth or seventh. This is a good practice. Begin in a position you've never actually played in before, or in the major pentatonic, or applying open strings or associate it to the one starting on the fifth up an octave. Incidentally, Roger also schooled me to "..connect, connect, connect"

2) "Master All The Tempos"-Phineas Newborn, Jr. This piece of advice from the distinguished jazz pianist always stuck with me. I believe this is genuinely a central to dominating music. Let's say my intention is to master playing at rapid tempos. I work for 3 weeks on a tune at 152mm. I'm starting to get it. One night I go to a nightspot and discover some players playing a fast jam. Wow! What tempo is that? I haven't got my metronome with me but the melodic phrase and tempo I can't get out of my head. I get home and discover that the tune is somewhere in the neighborhood of 176mm to 184mm. Well, that's a whole new glob of wax! It calls for a completely new approach. I ain't gonna be able to pull off all those ingenious sixteenth note runs, (maybe a couple of them..) let's see, it's back to the drawing board. And so, I get down to get the hang off that tempo, and the peculiar expressive style of phrasing it would require to sound genuinely good.- Or, I have gotten pretty adept at a "quick" slow blues at 63mm. But I hear somebody just kill at a super slow 40mm. It's a completely new world! I've got my work cut out for me. This tip truly keeps one expanding and developing, and out of those same old ruts! Master time and you can rule the world!

3) "Free Your Right Hand"

I didn't make this one up, I just never heard it said. It's like a well-kept mystery that I had to discover the challenging way. I'm astounded when, as a instructor, a new student will tell me that his previous teacher had told him to always anchor his right hand. On a superficial level this creates a safe way to find the proper strings easily. I force the student to play with the right hand free and begin alternating the pick direction cooccurring with the down or upbeat. This is commonly met with opposition and creates confusion. I even had a student after one lesson go to a gig and as he tried this advice out on the stage, he wound up cussing me and of course went back to anchoring his right hand after the first set. I personally enjoy this method because you begin to genuinely use the guitar percussively, as a drummer would play the drums. The term "attack" gains a whole new meaning. As one masters the free right hand, one compensates for string noise by muffling unpicked strings with the left hand, or just by learning to be deadly precise. Combined or alternating lead and rhythm, can be brought up to a completely raw art form, not to mention while sustaining a note, one can reach for a beer, cigarette, or hand signal the girl in the 3rd row. (All habits I have given up, by the way.) Pete Townsend at one time said "Don't allow your technique get in the way of your stage show." How else to do those "windmills", simply with a free right hand?

4) "Emotion, First" -my acting coach, Joe Palese

When I was studying acting, many of us would arrive at the beginners mistake of memorising our lines first then tacking on the emotion after the fact. This makes for bad acting! We were adjusted and trained to try the much more dangerous (and messy!) approach of creating genuine and honest emotion in the context of the character reference and the scene we were playing, and then learn the lines in an wholesome fashion, always connecting to the emotion. This made for acting that was genuinely motivating. It is the equivalent for playing guitar and improvisation. How many times have we practiced a lick again and again, pull it off flawlessly at a gig or public setting, and have the feel that folks are not that impressed? Or, do the reverse- you are watching someone else, and although you are impressed, something is lacking and you're not sure what? This goes perfectly with the "Free Your Right Hand" tip. This is where we go first, or at any rate in the process, arrive at a priority. This is where we develop feel, color, audio, nuance, individual articulation like characters, speed that really backpacks a wallop, melody, domination of phrasing that comes in the circumstance of emotional communication. This also involves intimacy, and true self-expression, exposing ones self. Giving all that one has, as contrary to the ego trip or impressing others. This is the stock in trade of the true artist. Clapton, Wes Montgomery, Duane Allman, Bill Evans, and Miles Davis come to mind.

5) "If You Want To Be a Better Musician, Become a Better Person."-John Coltrane

O.K., so what does that mean? Perhaps it entails tell the truth, be real and authentic. Be happy..contribute to other people and the worldbe faithful yourself, be genuine to your ideals and valuesbe caring, be loving. Be a leader and learn to communicate effectively. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Be a teacher. Do things as they should be done. Do all of the work. Do what you said you would. Be gracious. Make and nurture human relationships. Forgive. Make the world a better place. It really is a good deal easier than being a dork. It gives you power.

My nephew made the leap and finally bought Photoshop. He had been saving up for a while now, and believed it would make his life a lot easier. He saw a future where he would make top quality images by merely thinking about it. Just close your eyes hard enough and 'poof', it was done. Then he sat down to use Photoshop, and realised he had no idea what to do!

Just as with any piece of software or tool, you will need to explore what exactly is at your finger tips. We sometimes call this "playing" ... so my advice is to play with your Photoshop extensively. Check out the 'preferences' in Photoshop. Your goal is to increase the performance of your Photoshop. So open up your "Preferences" window. The color picker chooses the algorithm that will be used. Most users will choose between Windows and Adobe. The 'Image Interpolation' is used to decide which algorithm Photoshop will use when resizing an image. The 'Bicubic Interpolation' is generally a good choice for most people.

Here is some advice to get you started. Search for the 'History Log' on the screen. This is where you can save your progress while you edit your image. The are a number of options to personalise your session. For example select 'Sessions Only' to make the log remember the time and dat that you start each session. Choose 'Concise' to recall more information about your work. And you can pick 'Detailed' for the most information, recording details about every edit you do to the image.

If you go to preferences you can change the algorithm options to improve the performance of your software. The color is decided by the color picker. Windows and Adobe are the most common choices. Resizing an image is done by the 'Image Interpolation' algorithm. Th majority of people select 'Bicubic Interpolation'.

Resizing Images While Keeping Resolution

When you make an image smaller you may interfere with the resolution making the final image take on a blurry appearance. With large, clear images this can be devastating to the effect of the image.

This is a problem in many editing programs, but Adobe Photoshop has the tools to fix this.

You must have at least Photoshop CS to perform this function. The CS series is the most advanced software for editing images so you should get a copy. It is used by media professionals all over the world because of its unrivalled capabilities.

To reduce the size of a picture without losing too much resolution go to Image> Image Size. Click on Resample Image and then pick Bicubic Sharper from the options. This will produce the best results when resizing an image as it significantly reduces the blurring of the image when you change its size.

If you want to enlarge a photograph without losing too much resolution select the Bicubic Smoother.

This process is so effective that I would recommend setting Bicubic Sharper as the default selection when you start the software. You can do this by going to Preferences> General> Image Interpolation. Here you can select Bicubic Sharper as the default.

It is important not to perform multiple resizing on an image. To experiment with image size, use a copy of the original image as many resizings will reduce the resolution of the image more than is needed. Use the copy to find out what size you want then use the dimensions on the original to keep resizing to a minimum on the image you will finally use.

Blues Guitar Fingerstyle Tips and Blues Lessons

Blues Finger style has been in use for quite a long time in jazz, blues, rock and is even used for improvisation over blues backing tracks. There are some greats of the world of blues music like Mark Knoprfler, Jeff Beck and Chat Atkins who do it very well. Some of the blues guitar players who do the finger style better than anyone else include John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, Otis Rush and Albert King among others. Learning the fingerstyle method of blues playing will definitely make things easier for you especially when you are jamming and playing over blues guitar backing tracks.

This technique is all about how well you can use your bare fingers. You can use blues finger style on both the acoustic and electric guitars but they should have nylon or steel strings. Using the fingerstyle gives blues backing tracks a definite edge. Most of the blues guitarists of the Delta style used extensive blues backing tracks reinforced by finger styles.

You may have heard the word finger picking more than finger style and mind you - both the words sound similar but mean different. Finger picking in blues is more centered on particular picking patterns that have been inferred from certain chords and are always played in a style quite similar to arpeggio. For illustration: The song Layla by Eric Clapton is finger style but the song Never goin back again by Fleet wood Mac is finger picking.

Types of Blues Finger styles

There are different types of blues finger style techniques that you can learn as you progress up the ladder and of course if you want to play blues backing tracks. The most common way to use fingerstyle in blues backing tracks is by using the classical guitar style. In the classical guitar style, you have to use your thumb for playing the 3 bass strings, and use the index, and middle finger for playing the melody strings.

There are 3 distinctive style of blues finger style guitar and each have a different effect in blues backing tracks. They are:

1.Using the thumb: The thumb finger style mostly requires down-strokes. It will provide you with a hard style, hard sound, and a great tone but you will not be able to play fast. This is considered a beginners style and will provide you with a feeling of the guitar and the strings and create the base for blues backing tracks.

2.Index finger and thumb: In this technique you need to simulate playing with a pick except you will be using your fingers instead of the pick. The thumb will help in down-strokes while the index finger will be used for up-strokes.

The thumb, index and middle finger: In this technique you will have a definite advantage over the other two techniques and can play blues backing tracks with ease and speed. The middle finger and the index finger will be used for alternate picking.

Another tip for lead guitar improvisation is to try playing chord scales. When you use this method you are simply using chords instead of scales and melodies. The main idea of this is that you are playing a scale with a chord connected to it.

One very useful method to use when you're trying to improve your improvisation skills is to use guitar backing tracks. Guitar backing tracks are great for improvisation because it's like playing with a whole backing band, and allows you to improvise and put into practice all of your skills and tools in putting together awesome leads to go with the track. Playing along to a backing track will also help you to perfect your timing skills and will increase the enjoyment you get from playing along.

Showcasing his cherished work of art, either a painting or a sculpture, was an uphill task for an aspiring artist. The concept of the "Online Art Gallery" was the reason for the sea change. No longer did the new artist have to tote his wares from some petty gallery to another, practically begging for a display. When he did get to do so and if Dame Luck smiled down on him and he did make a sale; the chances of his setting the price on his work was remote. Most budding artist led a hand to mouth existence.

Learn How To Play Difficult Guitar Chords

Many of the 7 chords and their extensions, 9,11,13 etc are seemingly very difficult to create with your fret hand. However, there are a few tricks that can help you create these beautiful chords without growing two more fingers.

Most jazz musicians use what are commonly referred to as "small chords" when playing. Jazz players do a lot of what is known as comping, the mixture of rhythm and bass runs; playing that requires quick changing of chords. Thus, playing the full voicing of chords is not always possible and actually, isnt always required.

We can get the essence of most chords with only four notes, as little as three if one is playing with a bass player. Before we look at the chord shapes, lets discuss playing technique.

When playing jazz rhythms, I do not use a pick. I use my thumb and four fingers on my pick hand instead. I can use them in unison when I want to play chords or I can use them separately when finger picking and playing a bass rhythm separately from the chords; comping. There are those players that can hold the pick between their thumb and index finger and use the remaining three fingers to play other notes.

The reason I bring this up will become apparent when we look at the chord voicings. The basis behind this technique is not playing all of the strings. Most of these voicings will require you to skip strings in the middle of the chord. Whatever method you develop to deal with this is up to you. Playing with just my fingers works wonderful for me. You dont have to be interested in the genre of music, but the technique is well used in that musical style.

First we will look at the small style of the 7 chord shapes then move on to 6,9,11 and 13 chords. The nice thing about these chords is that they are movable up and down the neck. Thus, changing from a G7 to and A7 is just a matter of moving up two frets, much like barre chords. There really isnt too much more to talk about with these chord shapes. So, Ill just show you the shapes and you play them. Work with combining these shapes in progressions. If you have music around that you have been staying away from because these chords were too intimidating, pull out the music and start playing! I will show the shapes in either G or C dependant on the root string. Again, remember that these shapes are movable so just look at the bass note to get your chord name. Ill talk about different fingerings as we move through the lesson. However, I will offer fingerings in a traditional style and they will be shown as follows. First, the chord chart will indicate

G7 - Barre E,D and B strings with Index and fret G string with Ring.

Gmin7 - Barre E,D,G and B with Index.

First, the G7 and Gmin7. You can see how easily one could change from one to the other. Also, notice how the A string and the high E are not played, this is what I was mentioning above.

G7sus4 - Barre E,D and B with Index and fret G string with Ring.

GMaj7 - Barre E and B with Index, fret D with Middle and fret G with Ring.

The G7sus4 and the GMaj7. Again, only four notes per chord and easily movable.

Gmin/Maj7 - Barre E,G and B with Index and fret D with Ring.

G7b5 - E-Middle, D-Ring, G-Pinky and B-Index

Now were really getting into some jazzy chords. The G7b5 chord fingering can be tricky. I play in a style that is known as "thumbing the bass." Many guitarists have used this technique, Grant Green, Richie Havens and even Jimi Hendrix. However, the technique is stilled frowned upon by classically trained guitarists. The technique simply involves wrapping your thumb around the neck of the guitar enabling you to use your thumb to fret the bass notes. I can do this with bass notes on the E A and even D string when necessary. I have become very effective with the technique and my rhythm playing is respected in the circles in which I play. You can, however, simply fret the chords as barre chords or as four finger chords, as one would have to do with the G7b5. Work on different positions and find something that is comfortable and effective for you.

Gmin7b5 - E-Middle ,D-Ring ,G-Pinky and B-Index

GAug7 - Barre E and A with Index and barre G and B with Ring.

Again, were getting into some really jazzy sounding chords here. Try the different fingerings. The min7b5 will probably have to be played as a thumb bass or a four finger chord. The Aug7 could be played like a barre.

Gdim7 - E-Middle, D and B-Barre w/ Index and G-Ring

GMaj6 - E-Middle, D-Index, G-Pinky and B-Ring

Getting a little tricky here when it comes to fingering these chords. Also, we see our first new category, the Maj6 chord. This is where my technique of thumbing the bass really comes in handy (pun certainly intended)

Gmin6 - E-Middle, D-Index, G-Ring and B-Pinky

G13 - Barre E and D with Index, G-Middle and B-Ring

Okay, here are still more jazzy chords. The 13 chord is one of my favorites. This particular voicing of the 13 has the root, the b7, the 13 and the 3rd, just enough to make the chord sound like it should. The 5th can be added if desired, Ive indicated the 5th with *. Now, lets move on to some chords with roots on the A string.

C9 - A-Middle, D-Index, G-Ring and B-Pinky

Cb9 - Barre D and B with index, A-Middle, G-Ring

Okay, these 9 chords are fantastic for jazz and fusion. I find these have a great sound with some distortion or clean. One thing to point out, the Cb9 can be confusing. This is a C9 with a flat 9, not a Cb with a 9. As you know, Cb=B and is very rarely used. But, if this were shown as a Db9, then it could be confusing. Two ways composers will help with this. If it is shown as a Db9, you may assume it is a D9 with a flat 9. If the chord intended is a Db/C# 9, the composer will most likely call it a C#9 to avoid confusion. Also, if the chord intended is a Db9 with a flat 9, you will see either C#b9 or you may see Dbb9. You will come across these voicings once in a while and they can be confusing as you can see. Take the chords in context and the correct chord is usually quite apparent.

Cmin9 - A-Middle, D-Index, G-Ring and B-Pinky

CMaj9 - A-Middle, D-Index, G-Pinky and B-Ring

Okay, I think that is enough for now. We have 16 chords above that can be played with all 12 different roots, Thats 192 chords! Have fun with these

2) "There is Always a Way" -Vinnie Colaiuta

I've read this in an interview with Vinnie in a friend's magazine some years back relating to drums. The entire gist of the article was that when he was faced with a abstract problem, or when he was trying to pick up something especially challenging, or new, he was of the mind that there was "always a way" to get it, be it an adjustment of posture, a new way of looking at the execution of it, a new way of playing the blues guitar instrument, something to change to accomplish what was previously believed to be "impossible". I always try to use this when moving up the food chain, trying to get to the succeeding level. It has resulted in some great results, if not necessarily technical prowess, certainly something creative and unique.

3) "Poor Artists Borrow, Great Artists Steal" -Picasso or Stravinsky

I have overheard that it was either one of these extraordinary artists who said this. Also a corrolary"To be a really good guitarist, you must copy the styles of other blues guitarists."-Frank Gambale.

Well, first what can we steal? Chord progressions, tempo, groove, melodic phrase, (backwards melody!) Expressive style, mental attitude. What is the difference between that and "borrowing"? I think the great artist turns his thievery into something entirely his own, perhaps by unabashedly admitting the theft and developing it into a whole new foundation. Think -The Beatles, Prince, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmie Page, Clapton, Ornette Coleman, Elvis. Whereas the "borrower" is feigning to us that his original work has never before been heard and they have a contrived quality. This can be a very fine line.

Prior to ever reading the interview with Frank Gambale, saying that imitating styles was a invaluable tool, I was intrusted to some obscure concept of "being original". When I acquired the accuracy of that affirmation, I set about to work, and it has changed my life. I embraced the point of view that I was a student, and had a great deal to learn from those who preceded me, that music and its history was outside of myself, and was greater than I was. I am now a firm believer that both of these aspects expand one's growth to an immense degree. They give the player completely fresh languages to speak, and once you speak new languages, you will be able to create your personal great stories. Stories with depth and richness.

4) "The Impossible Can Be Accomplished Through Meditation and Concentration" -The Cup and Saucer Guy

I recall being kind of trapped on a plateau with my blues guitar playing at one point. I had achieved a good deal, but I didn't know how to really move ahead. I was watching a variety tv show on television one night. A man came on balancing one hundred cups and saucers. He did this for what appeared to be a very long time and then he allow them to all crash around him. As the audience applauded his effort, the host asked him how he had learned to do this. His answer was that through meditation, he was able to achieve the necessary concentration. I began my own meditation methods, first applying a easy technique of being still, which I had discovered in the pieces of writing of people like J. Krishnamurti, and Tara Singh. Nothing which requires years to master, but a simple way of continuing to quiet the mind, increasing concentration, focus, and listening, just being in a very calm and relaxed state, paying attention. I now carry this stillness and relaxation to all my guitar performances.

5) "The Three Month Rule" -Roger Mckinley

Roger Mckinley was a associate student at Berklee. Roger was also a very gifted rock and blues guitarist, who, when I first came across him, was imitating Pat Martino. Just 2 years later, had created his own explosive unique style. ( see tip#3!) He left the jaws of many around him agape (and he never seemed to be committing any effort into it!) I was surprised that he befriended lil' ol' me and was willing to jam with me. I understood and leanr so much from him on just a single jam session. One of the things he told me is that it takes a good 8 weeks to bring an element of originality into your playing. This has saved me a good deal of frustration, and tempered my natural impatience. I have come to a conclusion that no matter how much I practise something, it is usually the better part of 8 weeks before I actually can master it.

The Secrets to Hanging A Picture

Home decorating consists of putting up drywall, redecorating, painting, hanging wallpaper or putting in new flooring. One part of home decorating that we tend to overlook is hanging a picture. This may seem like a very simple project, but if it's not done correctly, you can have problems. Before you begin hanging a picture, you need to consider the weight of the picture and the type of wall you will be hanging it on.

You'll need to purchase the correct fasteners to hang your picture on the wall. These fasteners may be nails, hooks or new adhesive stickers that are now becoming widely used. While these are the most common fasteners, they may not be appropriate on all wall types. If the wall in question is made of brick, stucco or concrete, you won't want to use a regular nail. You'll need to use a concrete screw to ensure that the picture is hung securely and you haven't damaged the wall. Using a nail may only result in chipping the concrete by the nail.

If the picture of object is heavy, you can use a plastic anchor or a molly bolt. Either of these will work great and will not damage your wall. The local hardware or home improvement store will give you free tips on what kind of fasteners will work best for your picture or object to be hung.

Next on your list is deciding where to put the picture. In many parts of the country, people choose to place pictures purely on open walls, and not next to doors or curtains. How high or how low is usually a debatable question. The rule of thumb is to hang the picture so it is at eye level. Take a tape measure and measure from the floor to where eye level is on the wall. This is where the center of the picture will be hung. The next step will be to measure the actual picture. Measure from the bottom of the picture to the highest part of the hanging wire. To determine where you will hang it, subtract half of the picture's height and adding this to where you determined eye level was. You can then make a mark on the wall where it will be. Next, you need to make sure the picture is centered vertically and horizontally, making sure there is a stud behind the drywall.

Hold the fastener in place and nail or screw the fastener in the wall. When the nail or screw is securely in the wall, gently hang the picture. You want to hang it gently in case you missed the stud. If you did miss the stud the weight of the picture may put pressure on the nail if you're nailing into drywall. If you find that the picture is not quite as high or low as you want, first try adjusting the hanging wire. This is much easier than putting another hole in your wall.

If you have to hang more than one picture on the wall, you'll need to figure and measure for each picture. Measure for the first, then hang it, then measure for the second and so forth.

Who'd have thought that a self-taught musician who, as a boy, desired a guitar so desperately he completely built one out of a broom before acquiring a pathetic one-stringed ukulele, would eventually be acclaimed by many as one of the greatest and most influential guitarists in rock and blues music history?

Jimi Hendrix was born in 1942 and served in the US military army as a paratrooper in his early days.Having taught himself the guitar, he played the US' 'Chitlin Circuit' of clubs before heading over to New York, garnering a spot as the new guitarist for The Isley Brothers' band before joining Little Richard's back-up band and others.

On moving to London in 1966, he formed a 3 man band - The Jimi Hendrix Experience - which acquired rapid fame in Europe. Jimi became recognised for entertaining showmanship, which occasionally included setting his guitar ablaze! With a landmark show at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, and huge success of record album 'Are You Experienced?' Jimi became a world-wide star.

James Marshall Hendrix was the headline artist at the 1969 Woodstock Festival, where he played his controversial military fuzz-guitar version of 'The Star-Spangled Banner'. James Marshall Hendrix died at the tender age of 27 in 1970, having recorded only three fully-conceived studio albums and more than three hundred unreleased recordings.

With his unusual style of playing guitars inverted ('left-handed') and restrung to suit him, Hendrix is accredited with bringing the electric guitar to a higher level. Hendrix aimed to mix what he called 'earth', blues, jazz, or funk driven rhythm musical accompaniment, with 'space', the high-pitched psychedelic sounds he improvised on his guitar.

Hendrix played a key role in making the Fender Stratocaster the biggest-selling electric guitar in history and making popular the use of guitar distortion using effects pedals, including the wah-wah pedal, and units. He pioneered in the recording studio, experimenting with stereophonic and phasing effects.

With his albums amongst the most influential of the 1960s, James Marshall Hendrix altered rock and roll as the world knew it.

Learning how to play lead guitar is an art and it can only be mastered applying some of the most important and advanced techniques like string bending and tremolo picking among many others.

The most important part of playing the lead guitar is playing it well and using the several techniques to your advantage without going out of tune. Such guitar techniques come into picture only in the advanced stages.

The tremolo or the whammy bar as many call it is a useful tool when it comes to lead guitar techniques and can bring out a distorted sound that is common in hard rock or heavy metal bands like Metallica, Megadeth and Dreamtheater. Some of the other lead guitar techniques include doing the slide and string bending.

Slides

Playing slide style guitar is great fun, and opens up a new world of sound and tones that you cannot get with fingers only approach. There is no end to the different types of slides and materials you can use to make slides. When doing the slide on a lead guitar, you need to take care of an aspect, which is raising the strings of your guitar a little higher of the neck. You can always use an extension nut for this purpose. For sliding you can use your hand or another instrument called the slide. When you press the slide against your guitar strings, the pitch of the strings change and you can even vary the pitch to an extent by moving your slide upwards or downwards on the guitar neck. Slide is a lead guitar technique that is also known as the bottleneck guitar. It is an effective technique because it helps you to create pitch transitions continuously on your lead guitar.

String Bending

String bending also known as radial pitch-shifting is an important technique of playing the lead guitar. To create string bending, you have to move the string that has been held down in a particular direction, which is normally perpendicular to the axis and is always parallel to your fingerboard. This is a type of pitch-shifting that is most often used by in a rock or heavy metal band. String bending is most commonly used with other distortion techniques for making the lead guitar playing sound smoothly and melodic. It is limited to not more than 1 or 2 semi-tones but you will get to use even 3 semitones once you are highly skilled. When you need to play some fast phrases on your lead guitar, you can use tremolo picking. With the help of tremolo picking, you will be able to play a particular note multiple times in quick succession. It is also known as double picking and you can do it with your finger or with your pick. The main reason for using tremolo picking in lead guitar is because it adds more sustenance to melodic lines.

Lead guitar refers to a the use of a guitar to perform melody lines, instrumental fill passages, and guitar solos within a song structure. Guitarists like Van Halen, Steve Vai, David Gilmour, John Petrucci, Dave Mustaine, Tom Morello, Kirk Hammett, Jimmy Page, Dave Murray, Joe Satriani, Steve Morse and many more have popularized the art of playing the lead guitar.

Mastering the lead guitar takes time and effort. To master it you will need to use different and advanced scales, arpeggios, modes, riffs and licks. If you are thinking of becoming a lead guitarist then you will have to master various techniques of playing solo starting with hammer ons, pull offs and tapping.

Hammer Ons

Hammer-ons are normally played with pull-offs and are also known as slurs. A hammer on if used on a lead guitar can create a smooth sound between different notes and is considered to be a great way of rendering a solo performance. It can be seen as playing multiple notes in one strike. Something like playing multiple notes on a saxophone in one breath. It is the slur effect that makes the hammer a must for playing lead guitar. Just as the name sounds, a hammer-on means striking an open string. Hammer on is extremely useful for strumming patterns in which you would be required to hold on to a particular chord for a few seconds. You can play more than hammer-on at once. Try picking a note at the 5th fret, top E string, hammering on with your second finger to the 6th fret, and then hammering on to the 7th fret with your third finger. You should be able to hear all three notes clearly, even though only the first one is picked. The basic hammer-on technique should be fairly easy, although it takes time to develop the good coordination between left and right hand that is needed for faster hammer-on effects.

Pull-Off

For lead guitar playing, to accentuate the rhythm, you use a hammer on first and then play it backward, which is a pull off. To play this better, you should ideally start with two fingers on your fretboard. Let's take an example: if the index finger is at the 5th fret on your guitar's D string and if your ring finger is on the 7th fret then try picking the note at the 7th fret. At the point when the note rings, pull-off the ring finger, which will leave your index finger on the 5th fret. The sound that you get will be similar to a slurring effect and is a pull off.

Tapping

Tapping is a popular lead guitar technique that has been used by many great guitarists. Pinocchio, the character, was created by Carlo Collodi in 1883. The darling boy made from a block of wood by Geppetto the woodcarver was first introduced in the tale The Adventures of Pinocchio. Collodi was very keen on using a impish, sarcastic character to explore his own personal convictions and cultural and political critiques. As late as 1938, this was how Walt Disney had characterized the much beloved wooden puppet who wanted to be a real boy.

Disney, thinking that this interpretation of Pinocchio may not be well liked across the board, halted production on his second animated feature. He asked for a complete rethinking of the character, including how he would move, dress, and look. Initially, Pinocchio looked exactly like a puppet, with a pointed nose, pointed cap, and bare wooden hands. The new version of Pinocchio incorporated a rounded face, gloved five-fingered hands, and the distinct Tyrolean hat. Moreover, Disney did way with Pinocchio's original scorn and world-weariness and instead opted to make Pinocchio remarkably more nave and childlike.

How Disney's Cinderella Changed 20th Century Animation

Cinderella, the twelfth film released by Walt Disney, was the first full-length film since Disney released Bambi in 1942. The Second World War and a series of lower than expected box office returns made the prospect of a full-length feature problematic. Indeed, most critics regard Cinderella a pivot point between the classic Disney animation of the 1930s and 40s and the new animation of the 1950s and 60s.

To reduce the cost of production, Disney commissioned the use of extensive rotoscoping. Rotoscoping is a technique involving the animation of live-action film. Indeed, approximately 90% of Cinderella was initially shot as a live-action film. Two actresses were hired as a frame of reference for Cinderella, namely Helene Stanely and Ilene Woods. These actresses heavily influenced Cinderella's mannerisms and inflections. Point of fact, Helene Stanley was also used to play both Sleeping Beauty and Anita Radcliff in One Hundred and One Dalmatians. Prince Charming, on the other hand, was modeled by William Phipps.

The basic story was derived from the fairy tale written by the French author Charles Perrault (1628-1703). Perrault authored a series of fairy tales that have become part of our collective Western culture, namely Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, Puss In Boots, and Bluebeard. Disney would later create an animated feature based on Sleeping Beauty in 1959. Interestingly, Disney had used Cinderella 30 years prior in an animated short series called Laugh-O-Gram, which was later included in the Cinderella Platinum DVD Edition.

For the first time, Disney employed composers from Tin Pan Alley, a loose association of New York-based publishers and songwriters. In particular, Mack David, Jerry Livingston, and Al Hoffman were all hired to write such hits as "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" and "A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes." The soundtrack was issued on Walt Disney Music, another first for Disney, bringing in significant revenues. Cinderella earned three Academy Award nominations for Best Sound, Original Music Score, and Best Song (for "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo").

Cinderella was released on February 15, 1950 to mixed reviews. Some critics felt the new animation style was too significantly different from the early Disney classics. The production costs for Cinderella had reached nearly $3 million, putting the company heavily into debt. Disney had not enjoyed a box office success since Snow White, and many industry insiders feared Disney would fold as Disney had been heavily in debt since Pinocchio. The incredible box office revenues, as well as the income from soundtrack sales and merchandizing, not only saved the company, but funded projects throughout the 1950s.

Ok so I had to do a little research on this one, for admittedly I didn't know what index to use. GPA? Degrees? IQ?

SO I finally decided to go with IQ as it is the most relevant to "smartness" as a lot of "over achievers" get good grades and degrees.

SO to find the highest IQ celebs I did a internet web search for MENSA members. Here are my selection for the top six smart celebrities:

Sharon Stone (Yes THE Sharon Stone!)

Geena Davis (I saw her shopping in Hollywood the other day.)

Steve Martin (The actor)

Stan Medley ( Yes, he was on my Sexiest Men in America list too!)

Jodie Foster

Now these are the verified MENSA members (HIGH IQ Society). Now I guess they are ALL tied for first place as all we know is that they are members of MENSA. We do not know which of them has the higher IQ.

Honorable mention does go to JAMES WOOD, however, who is reported to have an extremely high IQ though we cannot verify any MENSA MEMBERSHIP.

NOW notice that out of the top SIX four first names begin with the letter "S". Quite a showing for that letter. Guess that makes it the smartest letter in the alphabet. SO I guess that is why Sharon Stone TOPS my list because her name has a double "S". (AND - oh - but the way, my name IS Sheree!)

Also noteworthy is that two of the SIX have last names that begin with the letter "M" - so maybe that puts Steve Martin and Stan Medley at the top of the list as both of their first names begin with "S" and last names begin with "M."

And as long as we are talking about Stan Medley, note that he was also in the top 5 on my SEXIEST MEN IN AMERICA LIST. He was number TWO to be exact - but I guess this moves him into FIRST PLACE on that list as a SMART MAN is really, really sexy to me. (Sorry George Clooney!)

Top Six Funniest Cartoons On The Internet

Funny is what funny does. But what is the real king of comedy? You might be surprised that more people view newspaper and Internet cartoons than all the funny movies, sitcoms, late night shows, and stand-up comedians if they were all lined up side-by-side.

In this "rat-race in which we live" which is referred to as planet earth, many simply do not have time to get their "humor fix" within a thirty minute or hour period. If you really think about it, even when listening to a joke, these days, in person, if it goes beyond half a minute, you are out in search of real humor, or at least not paying a lot of attention to someone who finds themselves funny, yet nobody else does.

A cartoon tells an entire story in a mere millisecond, and, it may take a few more seconds for the reader to "get it", based on their own "laughter quotient", but it can be quite satisfying, and does the trick. A good cartoon that a person enjoys, can actually elevate their mood, or so says science.

My point is not to tell you to boycott Jay Leno, Jon Stewart, Conan, or reruns of Frazier or Seinfeld. They are all very funny, to me, and many others, and I have to see a film in the genre of "Being There", "Meet The Fokkers" or even an Austin Powers once in awhile. But when I have time.

Meantime, in today's world, which is loaded with both joys and disappointments daily, it is nice, no pertinent to have a quick humor fix. No other venue can do that like a cartoon, specifically a single panel cartoon, which, if not wordy, does the trick fast and furious.

Here is my review of some of my favorite single-panel cartoons in the order of which I think they satisfy and/or are the funniest. Of course all humor is subjective, so you may have another take on it. In any case, these are my top 6 choices. Londons Times Cartoons is one you might want to bookmark as there are over 8000 cartoons by Rick London and they are funny. Off TheMark by Mark Parisi also has a large inventory but not quite the size as Londons Times. Londons Times are 99% in color, which makes them even more appealing.

I have been using the Netflix movie rental system and wanted to share my review of it, and include where to find the netflix phone number and netflix service number.

The company has really got massive momentum going on. It has been recommended to me by many of my friends.

They give you access to a steady stream of DVD"S with about a day for them to mail it to you and a day to mail it back. I have on my list a huge selection of title's that you just cant find anywhere at any of the video stores.

This highly successful venture has caught the attention of Google and they have plans to tap into this huge market also.

Some problem's exist when you return your movies too soon and they will not send you back the new one's as fast. The term throttling is what it's called. So far it is not a problem for me ,cause I cant watch more than one or two movies a night, even when some of my friends go thru 8-10 a week.

I look forward to checking my mail every day to see if I have any new one's in the mail box. It's a fantastic system of using the postal service to mail the DVDs for us.

Monthly fee for using them is way less than going to the video store and really is a lot easier. I have only had one dvd that had a scratch on it and they replaced it immediately.

Ratatouille Is Tasty Film Fare

Ratatouille, the eighth Pixar production, is a scrumptious treat. The irony of the kitchen's most horrifying menace, a rat, becoming a culinary hero is too ironic to resist-at least, that is what Pixar thought of the idea when it was introduced in 2001. The name comes from a French recipe and translates literally to "toss food." It is difficult to imagine a more fitting title for this film.

The hero of the film, Remy, is a rat with unique dreams of becoming a chef, and he has a real talent. Washed ashore in the sewers of Paris, he observes a gourmet restaurant's garbage boy boggle soup destined for a critic. Remy jumps in and saves the day. When the soup turns out to be a hit, the garbage boy (hilariously named Alfredo Linguini) finds himself stuck with the impossible task of recreating the soup. Thus, an unusual team is born. Remy, hiding beneath Alfredo's toque hat, proceeds to direct the clueless boy's movements by tugging at his hair, not unlike a puppeteer would direct a marionette. Consequently, Alfredo gains a reputation for being a star chef.

As in all the Pixar productions, the animation is amazing, and the creators found themselves doing some pretty strange homework to create their effects. For months, caged rats scampered in the studio hallway as movement models. Fruits and vegetables were drawn in various stages of decomposition. One man was nominated to go swimming in a chef's coat and toque to see where the articles would stick to his body when wet. The hardest assignment? A week in Paris studying the finest restaurants of Paris!

The final result is a culinary tour de force which many critics, among them A.O. Scott of the New York Times and Scott Foundas of the L.A. Weekly, count among the best films released in 2007. Nominated for five Academy Awards, Ratatouille is a rich, film you will want to watch over and over.

Why I Purchased Disney's Cars from the Disney Movie Club

The 2006 animated feature film Cars is a movie that will entertain everyone in the family. In a world populated entirely by vehicles, Cars carries a message of admirable sportsmanship and examines the idea of success and how it is measured. The seventh Pixar film (the final one before Disney took over) is as delightful as its predecessors.

Cars boasts an excellent soundtrack and the speaking talents of a great cast which includes Paul Newman in his last role before retiring. Joining him are Bonnie Hunt, George Carlin, Cheech Marin, John Ratzenberger, and Owen Wilson, among others. The film begins and ends on the speedway, and appropriately enough, its June 2006 debut was at Lowe's Speedway in North Carolina. In between, the action takes place in Radiator Springs, a Route 66 town bypassed because of the interstate.

Lightning McQueen is the film's main character. The action centers on his quest to reach California to compete in a match race between the three cars tied for first place in the Piston Cup. Separated from his party as they travel west, he lands in Radiator Springs and hot water. He finds himself in traffic court being prosecuted by Sally Carerra, who eventually becomes McQueen's love interest. He is sentenced to road paving duty and chafes under the assignment in his desperation to get to California. During his days in Radiator Springs, he meets an old racing great, Hudson Hornet, whom the town knows as Doc. Doc teaches Lighting a few hard things about life, then kindly informs the media how to find him.

Once on the track in California, Lightning is too consumed with memories of Radiator Springs to be competitive, and all looks lost until Doc arrives with a well oiled pit crew of his own making. The race in his grasp, Lightning foregoes victory to practice the sportsmanship lessons he gained from Doc. In the end, the victor is booed and good sport Lightning is a hero.

The feel-good film enjoyed great success all across the globe and became the first movie dubbed in Ukranian for its video release by Disney. On another unusual note, the Russian video's title translates to "wheelbarrows"-their slang term for cars. The worldwide home video market for Cars is astounding, insuring that this movie is definitely going to become a classic

Generally the thumb should arch over the neck while constructing chords and it should be at the back of the neck while playing scales. But, again, there are no hard and fast rules about it, keep your thumb in a position where you are most comfortable and can reach the strings with utmost ease.

It's fun to do magic coin tricks, and they're fairly easy to learn. True, it takes some time and practice to get them down perfectly, but the effort is well worth it.

For this magic coin trick you will need two coins. I recommend that you use a penny and a nickel.

To get started, you'll need to place one of the coins in the hand of your volunteer, who'll be someone in your audience. Ask them to hold the coin with their palm facing upward.

You'll announce to the audience that you will grab the coin faster than the volunteer can close their fist around the coin. You'll begin by holding your hand over your volunteer's hand, slightly separating your fingers.

Now you'll try to pick up the coin using just your first three fingers and your thumb.

The participant will think that they can be quicker than you; they think this because they still feel a circular object in their hand, but it ends up being the other coin.

It's loads of fun to learn how to do magic coin tricks, but there are times when you may need someone's help to effectively pull one off. Ask a friend to assist you with a trick, and make sure they won't reveal to anyone else how the trick is done.

You will want to put a coin in your friend's hand and put the other coin on your palm in the crease between your thumb and forefinger. Hold your hand so it looks like you are going to grab the other's coin.

When you reach for the coin, tell your friend to slowly close their fingers since you still need to get the hang of this. Then you'll take the coin and just as quickly drop the coin you've been palming into their hand, in the same exact spot the other coin was.

You can then instruct your friend to close their hand. As you continue practicing, you will get quicker and your friend can begin to close their hand as fast as they can.

After you have the coin trick down, you can try it out in front of an audience. Do not close the trick by showing you have the coin that was originally in their hand. Let them open up their fist and see that they have a different coin than the one they started out with.

Magic coin tricks are a favorite for kids. This is a great trick to use when kids are going to make the bulk of your audience.

There is some really bad slot machine advice or call it slot game strategy, which is appearing on the net in recent times. I found it so outrageous that at first I thought it was a joke. Most people who have gambled to any extent understand slot games well enough to play them and know to always bet the max amount in order to be eligible for the jackpot if lucky enough for it to hit. I think that is a given with most of you.

This goofy strategy which is aimed at those playing slot machine games online, is called the steps or the stepping ladder, perhaps the stepping stone. I wish I'd paid better attention to the name of the slot strategy now. Anyhow it suggests the player find a 3 coin machine and play one coin at a time ... only increasing to two coins whenever you win something back from the previous slots spin and then finally increasing to 3 coins bet if you win two spins in a row. It almost assures the player will never hit a win while playing 3 coins at a time because regardless of the fact that each spin is separate from the last and the next one ... I ask you: how often do you hit 3 wins in a row when playing a slot machine?

I won't argue the fact that the truly big wins or jackpots can happen at any time and they are unlikely to be effected on the timing of the payout because a small payout came before, or even if two came before. But what concerned me was how often do you hit a mixed bar win (such as a single, double and triple bar all lining up on the payline) which pays about fifteen times the investment. These little wins are what keep you playing until you can hit a big win. This steps strategy in my opinion will lead players into a scenario where they are losing most the times they are betting 3 coins ... because they had to hit two wins in a row to be able to bet the 3 coins. Truly ... how often do you hit 3 wins in a row on a slots machine?

Perhaps the math whizs in Vegas could tell me whether my suspicions are correct? But until they tell me different I cannot help but feel this "steps" betting system is a really bad idea for slots players. A quick glance at just a few of the triple coin slot machine games online revealed that some of the machines have more than a 50% difference between the payout on the 2nd coin and the payout on the 3rd coin (max bet). Out of the twenty or so online slot machine games that I checked I found none in the 3 coin category this strategy would be beneficial in any significant way.

I did find one two coin online slot machine game which had no extra benefit for betting the maximum amount where the steps strategy would at least not hurt the player significantly but there still is the fact that most slot machine wins do not come back to back meaning once again you'd be making your big bets while riding a win from a single coin win.

Frankly it sounds more like a system designed to give you the ultimate rush by following a win with a bet that is twice or three times the norm. And then the times you did hit with all three coins bet you'd be extra gleeful coming off two wins and then hitting that third with all three coins bet. I'm sure its a system that provides maximum rush for your gambling dollar but not so sure about the math using that strategy. If I had to guess it would be that the steps gambling strategy is at best harmless and at worst case is having the player making their biggest bets at the worst times.

My personal method for playing slots does mimic the steps in an abstract way. I believe you should bet at lower credit values but max credits bet. So instead of playing with credit values of one dollar and betting only one coin (equals one dollar), I would play with credit values of one quarter of a dollar and bet the three coin max. It saves me one fourth the cost if I had been playing single one dollar coins while giving me a jackpot expectation of ...

Well lets take an average three coin slot machine game powered by Microgaming software, the leader in the industry. I went with "Fantastic Seven" slots game which has three coin max bet which pays a jackpot of 500 credits on the first coin, 1000 credits on the second coin bet and 2500 on the third coin which is of course the maximum amount of credits you can wager. According to my math the 2500 jackpot would pay $625 with an original whopping wager of $.75 cents. if I had bet $1 playing credit values of one dollar my jackpot payout would be $500. So it costs less to win more when you play only max bets. *Please note that not all slot machine games on line pay the same schedule. The gap between coin two and max bet is almost always considerable however it can vary in either direction.

In any discipline, you will have what many think of as "the purists". Purists are those who revere the way things have always been done and view new innovations in the field as upstarts and obviously of poorer quality than the tried and true methods. This is nowhere more true than photography. For decades the film and chemical processing method has undergone continual refinement to achieve higher and higher levels of sophistication and to find higher levels of quality. Small wonder that when the digital revolution came along, "the purists" were, to say the least, a bit snobby about the idea of professional photography moving in this direction.

Of course, art is a subjective thing. Many people would look at a Jackson Pollack "splatter" artwork and determine most definitely that modern art is not art because it "doesn't look like anything." And if you spend any time in the modern art world, you will definitely see something at some time along the way occupying space in a perfectly respectable art museum that, to you, could never be considered art.

For most of us, though, the company Eastman Kodak is probably the one we associate most with the early developments of photography. And it was the early pioneer of photography, George Eastman that made the first advancements on the primitive methods being used until his work in 1839. A little trivia? Eastman made the name "Kodak" up because he wanted his company name to begin with a "K".

The developments began to come along pretty routinely as photography began to mature and become more sophisticated. Color photography was developed in 1861 by a scientist named James Clark Maxwell. Up until then all photographs were black and white or monochrome. Color photography was a huge leap forward but it really did not start to move into the public arena until two brothers named Lumire in 1907 invented the color plate. Over the decades to follow, photography moved forward steadily and moved out of the world of science and then journalism and into each of our homes. But the revolution that has turned photography into what we know it to be today occurred in 1981 when Sony invented the first camera that worked without film. The digital age was upon us.

Digital photography, being a child of the internet and the digital revolution that has swept our lives via personal computers, can be delivered in a myriad of ways and at a speed that was unheard of prior to the arrival of this technology. We can deliver the photos via email, by posting them to an online gallery or by burning them to a DVD or CD so the customer can order lots more shots for the same cost and have them delivered in a way that easy to view and store.

It's true that the mechanical skill that the guy at Wal-Mart might need to take baby pictures may be the same as a great photographic artist might need. But the objection doesn't hold up because the same human language is used to create great poetry as it takes yell out obscenities at a baseball game. So it isn't the skill that makes it art.

In virtually every way, digital photography, delivery and editing is superior to the way "the purists" would have us hold on to. It makes our lives as photographers easier, faster and more profitable. But above all, this is something our customers want us to use. They get to enjoy their pictures so much faster, at a more reasonable cost and the pictures can be emailed to friends and posted on their family web sites which is fun for everyone. So despite our desire to be "purists", every reason we need is there to convince us that digital photography is the way to go.

Why I Purchased Peter Pan from the Disney Movie Club

Based on the famous play, and succeeding novel, by J.M. Barrie, "Peter Pan" had been slated to follow the wild success of "Bambi." Walt Disney had planned to make the film as early as 1939, even going so far as to parley the rights with the Great Ormond Street Hospital (who had been given the rights to play by Barrie). The outbreak of World War II waylaid the production until 1949. The film was not released until 1953.

Disney was keen on casting an actual boy to voice Peter Pan, though the character had been portrayed by a young woman to that point in history. Indeed, the characters of Nana and the Crocodile (renamed Tick-Tock and Croc) were represented as animals, where they had been portrayed by actors on stage. In the 1911 novel, Nana was characterized as a Newfoundland dog, but it was depicted as a St. Bernard in the movie. The most beloved and long-lasting character, next to Peter, was Tinker Bell. Rather than a ray of light, the fairy was drawn as a green-clad, winged girl. To this day, Tinker Bell is one of the most popular Disney characters. When she dies in the play, the children in audience are encouraged to clap to bring her back to life - this, of course, is not included in the movie.

In the novel, Captain Hook is eaten by the Crocodile, whereas in the movie he is constantly evading the reptile's jaws. Likewise, in the play Hook loses his right hand, but the animators felt this would seriously impair his movements, so they decided on the left hand. One of the few traditions carried over from the play concerns using the same actor (in this case the voice actor) to play both Captain Hook and Mr. Darling. Indeed, Hans Conried, the voice actor, was the live-action study for all of Captain Hook's movements as well.

The plot of "Peter Pan" involves the boy who will never grow up, Peter Pan, enticing the Darling children, Wendy, John, and Michael, to join him on his escapades in Never Land. Once there, they join Peter as he battles his arch rival, the pirate Captain Hook. Tinker Bell soon begins to resent Peter's time with Wendy and inadvertently betrays Peter and the Lost Boys to Hook.

The film features three songs by Sammy Cahn and Sammy Fain that have since become classics of modern soundtrack music. The songs are "You Can Fly," "The Second Star to the Right," and "Your Mother and Mine."

"Peter Pan" is still one of Walt Disney's most well-liked and requested movies to date. It is ranked in the upper echelon of Disney films, including such classics as "Snow White," "Bambi," and "Cinderella."

1. Subscribe to a dozen RSS feeds on various subjects you are most interested in. Scan through the feeds every morning or at night and select a few articles for thorough reading. After reading the articles, tag them using your own classification system.

Classifying articles in different categories helps locate them quickly. Use Google's RSS reader for reading and tagging the RSS feeds. You will have access to your categorized articles from any computers connected to the Internet.

2. Subscribe to a few print magazines and read them regularly. After you finish reading an article, record the main points of the article in a Google note. You will have access to these notes anywhere in the World.

3. Use a PDA and carry it with you wherever you go. Better yet, get a PDA with a camera and cell phone. You will only carry one gadget for all your communication, organization, and content generation needs.

Take pictures of interesting places, events, and moments you come across in your daily life. Use the voice recorder of the PDA to record whenever an idea hits you. Every night, transfer the ideas from your PDA to Google notes and upload your pictures to flickr.

4. Scan through the comments posted by others on the online articles you read regularly. Record interesting ideas, pros and cons of an issue, and strong opinions posted by others in your Google notes. Leverage the wisdom of the crowd.

5. Have lunch with friends at least once a week. Bounce ideas off them on any topic. Mix ideas from divergent topics to create new ideas in you own subjects.

6. Use the time like driving, watching TV while exercising in a treadmill, etc. to think about your favorite topics and try to relate to things you observe on the road and on the TV. When you get an idea, record it in your PDA.

7. Go through all the ideas and articles you have recorded in Google notes and your RSS reader to create new ideas by giving new twists to the old ideas. Combine two or more ideas and change or improve an existing idea to come up with your own idea.

8. Use a variety of online tools like Technorati, Digg, Delicious, etc. for writing inspiration. Every hour, hundreds of new articles and news stories are posted in these sites. Quickly scan them to hit a few gold nuggets that can serve as springboards for new ideas.

9. Using on-line tools discussed earlier, select an issue and jot down all the pros and cons. Search Google to enhance the idea by adding more pros and cons. Once you have collected a dozen diverse opinions, you will be able to write an article based on those facts in a pro-con format.

10. If you are good at using data for analysis and comfortable in the use of a spreadsheet, draw charts in the spreadsheet and look for patterns in the data. Provide you own interpretation to the data. Illustrate your articles with charts and graphs.

11. To generate topics for your article, use overture keyword selector. Select a single keyword and run it through the overture. You will see a dozen or more keywords based on the search popularity. Copy a few selected keywords to a notepad. Now, take each keyword and do a search in online sites like Digg, Technorati, etc. You will see a number of articles. Read them to generate ideas.

12. Ask yourself what if, what else, and why not questions on an issue and search the Internet to find answers from different sources. Create new ideas generated from existing materials, provide step-by-step guide for somebody to practice an obvious idea, or offer benefits of practicing an old idea.

Fast and Easy Guitar Scales Learning Tips

Scales are the key to advanced-level guitar playing. Here are the steps to mastering your scales and turning them into shreddin' lead guitar:

1) Learn and memorize each of the five pentatonic and seven diatonic scale patterns. Needless to say, this isn't going to happen overnight. Play each pattern straight from the lowest note of the pattern to the highest note of the pattern and back again. Don't do anything tricky with the pattern. Play each pattern starting as low on the neck as possible (open string or first fret), play the pattern across all six strings and back, then move up one fret and repeat the same pattern. Continue to move up one fret at a time until you've played the pattern at every fret you can comfortably play. Consider this one "round" of playing a pattern. It may take you 10 or 20 or more rounds to even begin to become fluent with the pattern. Personally, I put in hundreds, probably thousands, of rounds of each scale pattern over the course of a few years in my teens and early twenties. In all honesty, that's what it takes.

2) Then start working on the patterns using exercises - the kind that have you play sequences of scale notes that are not just playing straight from the lowest note to the highest note. Exercises like this can be found on the net, and there are dozens of them in my course, Logical Lead Guitar, demonstrated on DVD and written out in tab and notation. These exercises help you to become fluent playing the scale patterns in a non-scale-like fashion. And this is the all important bridge to actually being able to play lead guitar.

3) Next, begin doing what I refer to as "puzzle locking exercises." Scales fit together in one key up and down the neck like puzzle pieces, so you have to work on sliding from one scale pattern into the next pattern without going to the wrong fret. That's why I suggest these "puzzle locking exercises." There's a ton of them in Logical Lead Guitar, on DVD and in tab and notation.

4) Learn a melody - something really easy and familiar, such as "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" - in each of the scale patterns. No matter which melody you choose, you'll find that it's probably easier to play that melody in some scale patterns than others. After you've attempted enough different melodies, you'll usually find that there are certain melodies that work best in each of the five pentatonic or seven diatonic scale patterns, and not quite as well in the other patterns. And at first you might think that there are only a couple of patterns in which most melodies can be played very easily, and most of the other scale patterns are not so useful. But with time - and with the exploration of more melodies - you'll find that every one of the patterns has its strong points.

5) "Noodle around," as I call it, in each of the scale patterns. Plan on doing a lot of this, if you really want to become fluent at improvisation - creating your own unique solos - instead of simply knowing how to play other guitarists' solos. By noodle around, I mean that you should spend five or 10 minutes straight playing any and every simple, or even silly riff or melody that you can find in one pattern. Then choose another scale pattern and do it again for five or 10 minutes. You can easily do this unaccompanied, or you can put on a CD of some song by your favorite artist and play over the top of them. Really, you should use both techniques to really learn your chops. Actually, after you've done this a few times and have begun to feel comfortable doing so, it becomes kinda fun!

6) After doing plenty of noodling around in each of the patterns, you should have begun to find specific licks that work really well only in one specific pattern. You need to catalog these licks, at least in your mind, if not by writing them down (in tab or sheet music) or even by recording them so you can refer back to them in the months ahead.

7) Begin learning solos from your favorite artists, as close to "note-for-note" as you can. Use any resource you must to get the solo correct in the beginning - free tab off the Internet (many, if not most of these, are incorrect, however); the very accurate songbooks published by companies such as Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, Warner Bros., etc.; DVDs, such as the awesome Signature Licks series by Hal Leonard; or even from a teacher or friend. And here's a hint: If you are closer to beginner lead guitarist than expert, don't waste your time trying to run before you can walk. Whether you want to or not, you really need to learn simple, slower solos before you're going to be able to tackle something by Joe Satriani or Eddie Van Halen or Metallica or Avenged Sevenfold. Don't bother trying to fool yourself, you're just wasting time. Learn a couple of simple solos, then move up to intermediate solos, then start working on the harder stuff.
